Kevin Hart Teams with LeBron James for 'Ballers'
He's already lead the Miami Heat to a pair of NBA Championships and won the MVP Award four times, but did you know LeBron James really wants to act? For a couple of years now he's been trying to get a basketball comedy off the ground with little success. When it first came up the film was going under the title of Fantasy Basketball Camp, but was then titled Ballers. It even had Malcolm D. Lee (Undercover Brother) briefly attached to direct although nothing came of it because of James' busy schedule. But now the project is coming off the bench with an assist by new co-star, Kevin Hart.
The 6'8" James will get to tower over the 5'3" Hart in the b-ball comedy. Hart will co-write the script with Joey Wells, Chris Spencer and Harry Ratchford, but it sounds like the basic premise hasn't changed much. James will play a fictional NBA star with Hart as his brother who suffers from an inferiority complex. That all changes when Hart's character gets a chance to attend a fantasy basketball camp in Miami.
James may be the most dominant player in the NBA but Hart is the comedy champion in this match up. Hopefully he's not a total embarrassment like Shaquile O'Neal was in Grown Ups 2, and he'd have to be comatose to do worse than Kevin Durant in Thunderstruck.
Filming will begin next summer after Hart completes the script and a director is found. [Deadline]
