Arnold Schwarzenegger holds the line on the new poster for 'The Last Stand'
"Not in his town. Not on his watch".We mentioned recently how Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone seemed to be making a concerted effort to bring back the aggressive, old school genre flicks of the past, as a blatant commentary against the polished action heroes of today. The Expendables certainly fits that bill, along with many of the other projects they've got lined up. One that has me particularly psyched is The Last Stand, which not only has Schwarzenegger in the lead role, but marks the English-language debut of talented South Korean director, Kim Ji-Woon(I Saw the Devil).
We received a more colorful poster for The Last Stand during Comic-Con, but this new one seems to be a better fit for the film's gritty tone. Schwarzenegger plays disgraced Sheriff Owens, who is forced out of his LAPD job after a major screw up leaves his partner crippled. Resigned to not seeing much action as the Sheriff of Sommerton Junction, a quiet border town. He gets all the action he'll ever need when a notorious crimelord busts out of an FBI convoy, and along with his crew speeds off towards the border, headed straight for Sommerton Junction. It's up to Owens and his small town force to be the final line of defense.
It's simple, but the image captures Schwarzenegger's instant authority and credibility, and he looks like a guy who is about to have a serious throwdown. I'm excited for this one. The Last Stand also stars Jaime Alexander, Forest Whitaker, Peter Stormare, Zach Gilford, Rodrigo Santoro, Johnny Knoxville, Luis Guzman, Eduardo Noriega, Genesis Rodriguez, and Harry Dean Stanton. Look for it to open next year on January 18th. [IGN]
