Newcomer Blu Hunt Joins 'New Mutants' As Moonstar

And the final New Mutant has been cast. With Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Rosario Dawson as Cecilia Reyes, and Henry Zaga as Sunspot, relative newcomer Blu Hunt (The Originals) has joined the cast as Danielle Moonstar, and if the storyline is what we think it is then she's going to have a big role.

Moonstar is a Cherokee Native American and a fierce combatant, often counted upon to lead the team in battle. She wasn't always so fond of having anybody else, particularly Cannonball, as their leader.  She has the psionic ability to project illusions of her foe's fears. Later she would gain the power to create psionic bows and arrows and other magical abilities after serving as a valkyrie for the Asgardians. Marvel made it a point to cast an actual Native American for the role of Moonstar, which is a nice touch.

We've heard that Josh Boone plans for New Mutants to be a full-fledged horror movie, with the plot based on the Demon Bear storyline that focuses heavily on Moonstar and her childhood. Who knows how the story will be changed for the screen, though, or if they'll change it at all.

New Mutants begins shooting next month to hit theaters on April 13th 2018.
