'Catching Fire' adds Lynn Cohen of 'Sex and the City' as Mags
Oh, sweet Magda! Remember that time you hid Miranda's vibrator and replaced it with religious totems? And all those times you inappropriately meddled in Miranda's life, even though you were her maid/nanny and judged her every move? And, remember how your name was Magda ... and now you're playing Mags in Catching Fire, the sequel to The Hunger Games? Magda? Mags? Madga?! Mags?! I really need these two people to merge together into one.
So, yeah, if you couldn't tell from my cracked-out stream-of-consciousness rant above, actress Lynn Cohen, who portrayed Miranda's housekeeper Magda in the Sex and the City TV series and films and has also acted on Law and Order, Nurse Jackie, and various other things, will portray Mags, the Hunger Games victor in her 80s who pairs up with Finnick to protest his true love Annie. Magda was a constant presence in SATC but the role never seemed that challenging; in contrast, Mags is courageous, loyal and brave, one of the most selfless people in Catching Fire and knowledgeable about how to survive in the arena without brute force. Cohen should have a far stronger chance to shine than she ever did in the shadow of those overprivileged New Yorkers. Get ready to shed some tears over Mags, people.
Cohen joins a slew of other people recently cast in Catching Fire, including Amanda Plummer as Wiress, Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee, and Jena Malone as Johanna Mason. So like, are they ever going to cast Finnick? PLEASE CAST FINNICK.
