Has Joe Carnahan's 'Daredevil' plan been rejected by Fox?

Uh oh, it looks like we may be talking about Daredevil reverting back to the Marvel Universe, after all. That's certainly where things seemed to be headed, as the Man Without Fear's film rights were on the verge of expiring over at 20th Century Fox, with the studio scrambling to find someone to get a production up and running before then. With David Slade out, Joe Carnahan(The Grey) emerged as the frontunner, and in recent days we've seen him talking up the project a little bit on Twitter...

But now it appears the tables have turned. Carnahan again took to tweeting the film's progress, and his mood certainly changed.....

The most recent update said that Fox may be willing to let the character go, rather than getting involved in some complicated horsetrading with Marvel to earn an extension. Fox's rights lapse on October 10th, and even if Carnahan or some other director were to get the job today, it would be a tough turnaround in that short a period of time. It's always possible Fox has another director in mind, but it's doubtful. Carnahan would have made for a perfect fit for the character, and if they were truly serious about holding on to Daredevil, they'd probably be amenable to any halfway decent idea that crosses their desks.
