Michael Hazanavicius circling Demitri Martin-scripted comedy, 'Will'

Sometimes even the most dead of projects can see new life just by having some red-hot talent show the slightest interest. A couple of years ago, comedian Demitri Martin(Taking Woodstock) sold a script for a high concept comedy titled Will, about a world that was totally lacking in free will and life has been totally pre-ordained. At the time the film was looking to be directed by Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton as their follow-up to Little Miss Sunshine. Paul Rudd and Zach Galifianakis were set to star, with the former as a guy who discovers with his 34th birthday that he can do whatever he pleases. The film just sort of died and went away, with all the principle players going on to other things.

Well now in a very brief write-up by Deadline, they report that Michel Hazanavicius, still basking in the glow of The Artist's five Academy Award victories, has expressed interest in directing the film, and that this is enough to get the suits over at Paramount looking to bring the film back. Hazanavicius also wrote The Artist's screenplay, so it wouldn't be surprising if he took a crack at touching up Martin's script.

We probably won't hear anything about a start date until a director is locked in place, but even if Hazanavicius does sign on, he's still got a remake of 1958 Oscar-winner The Search to take care at some point.  Since The Search would star his wife and The Artist star, Berenice Bejo, I'm guessing that one's a bit higher on his priority list.
