New images and plot details from Pixar's 'Monsters University'

While most gravitate towards Pixar's Toy Story movies or Up as their personal favorites, mine have always been The Incredibles and Monsters, Inc. While it's unlikely we'll ever get to see more animated superhero action from Pixar(although this would be the perfect time, right?), we are going to get a prequel to Monsters, Inc. with next year's Monsters University.

So far all we've really known about it as that it'll involve Sully(John Goodman) and Mike(Billy Crystal) and their first meetings in monster college. What seemed obvious from the earlier teaser trailers was that Mike was something of a dork while Sully would fit in the category of popular school jock, assuming monsters stick to typical school social categories. But that's not really a conflict, is it? Fortunately, Billy Crystal spoke to EW and has granted us a few new details, and it sounds kinda cool....

Crystal: "Mike and Sully] end up in the same fraternity where they have this scare competition – like Greek Games in college. They have to mobilize a group, sort of like Revenge of the Nerds-monsters, and get them ready to be scary."

I love it. The only thing that could make it better is if Lambda Lambda Lambda made an animated cameo appearance. Ironically, John Goodman played the a-hole football coach in Revenge of the Nerds, so this should be familiar ground for him. I wouldn't count on there being any "hair pies" or panty raids, though. This is Disney/Pixar, after all. Crystal went on to reveal that Mike and Sully are 17 and 18 years old, and that Mike is still wearing a retainer.

Monsters University opens on June 21st 2013.
