Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tom Hardy prep animal poaching drama

Leonardo DiCaprio desperately needs his own comic book movie. How else can he hope to measure up alongside his buddy Spider-Man and their pal, Bane? DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, and Tom Hardy are set to team up on an upcoming drama, but it's probably not anything like what you're expecting or hoping for from the trio.

THR reports the red-hot trio will produce a drama for Warner Bros. centered on animal poaching. The idea came from Hardy, who got it from some friends who went from being Special Forces operatives to fighting animal poachers around the world. It makes perfect sense for DiCaprio, one of the most outspoken animal rights activists in Hollywood, and Maguire has long been one of his best buds. Right now it's unclear if any of the three will appear in front of the camera, but I'd be willing to bet the answer is "yes".

The vision for the film is said to be in the vein of Steven Soderbergh's Traffic, taking a look at the issue on a number of fronts, and showing everything from the ground war on poaching to what happens to the animal parts afterwards. That includes those furs you're wearing, ladies.

It's still very early days on this one, and the search for a screenwriter is on.
