Gina Carano joins the female 'Expendables' flick

Even though she's only had one leading role in Steven Soderbergh's Haywire, and audiences largely ignored it, there's no doubt that Gina Carano is the female action star of the future. Hollywood has noticed it, too, which is why she's currently filming Fast & Furious 6, and will star in the genre film In the Blood. Just last month we learned of producer Adi Shankar's plan to develop an all-female version of The Expendables, and Carano would make for an obvious pick for it. So obvious, in fact, that she's the first to officially sign on.

Shankar will be producing the film through his 1984 Private Defense Contractors label, with a script by Dutch Southern. We don't know any plot details yet, but if its anything like the dude Expendables it won't really matter. Crap gets blown up, evil foreign guys get filled with holes while somebody makes a really bad gallows joke.  Carano has shown already she has a nice balance of physicality, sexuality, and humor so she makes for a solid #1 draft pick. Shankar's pretty excited about it...

Shankar: "I don't know how I'm supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of 'The Expendables' without Gina Carano in it. It would be like making Twix without caramel or Jamba Juice without jamba."

Welcome to "Really Bad Analogies" starring Adi Shankar. Anyway, Shankar is aiming for all the ladies you'd expect for a film like this: Kate Beckinsale, Milla Jojovich, Michelle Rodriguez, and more. So expect to hear something new soon. [Variety]
