New posters for 'Frankenweenie', 'The Smurfs 2', and Paul Haggis' 'Third Person'

We've got three new posters that recently hit the web, two of which are for animated flicks, and one by a director who has all the subtlety of a Saturday morning cartoon. So I guess in that way they're all connected.

The first is a newly released IMAX poster for Tim Burton's Frankenweenie, which I'm just going to say now is the best damn thing he's done in twenty years. Things have certainly done a total 180 from a few months ago when we were all crapping on him for Dark Shadows. It's indicative of what we've been saying for a long time now, that Burton has been limiting himself with remakes and adaptations, and when left to his own creative devices the guy is a genius. Frankenweenie is based on his 1984 short story and follows young Victor Frankenstein(voiced by Charlie Tahan) who harnasses the power of lightning to bring back his dear, beloved pooch Sparky. What follows is a hilarious, chaotic mess, with some deeply personal touches from Burton. Frankenweenie opens on October 5th.

$563M is what The Smurfs made for Sony Pictures last year. Isn't that crazy? A film that most largely derided as crap proved to be quite the cash cow for the studio, fueled by nostalgic adults(like me) and parents who took their whole families for some expensive 3D CGI fun. Sony quickly greenlit two sequels, brought back the entire live-action and voice cast while introducing some new ones, and stuck Raja Gosnell back into the director's chair. The film has the Smurfs travelling the world, where they encounter the "evil" Naughties, voiced by Christina Ricci and JB Smoove. The Smurfs 2 opens next year on July 13th 2013.

And finally we've got a new sales poster for Third Person, the upcoming film from the wildly overrated Paul Haggis. We learned about the film back in August, and since then there have been some developments, with Mila Kunis, Liam Neeson, and Olivia Wilde joined officially by James Franco and Adrien Brody. The film is described as a global romance following three interlocking stories. An official synopsis for each segment has been released as well, which you can check out below. If you don't understand any of it, don't worry because Haggis will spell everything out for you at the end of the movie....[Comingsoon]

Plot: (Paris) Michael, a writer who recently left his wife, receives a visit from his lover Anna. The story explores their very complicated on/off relationship due to her inability to commit because of a terrible secret.

(New York) Julia has recently been charged with attempting to kill her son, a charge which she firmly denies. As a result of these charges, her son is now in the custody of his father Rick who's trying everything in his power to take the boy away from her. Julia is trying at all costs to regain custody of her son.

(Rome) Sean, an American business man on a trip to Italy, falls in love with an Italian woman, Monica. Sean is inevitably drawn into a plot where he tries to free Monica's daughter who has been kidnapped by an Italian gangster and is being held for ransom. Emotions run high as we and Sean question whether this is a set up or not.
