You want to know what's sad? The last film I saw Parker Posey in was Inside Out, an embarrassingly bad action film starring Michael Rapaport and WWE superstar Triple H. What the Hell?? Posey has always been a favorite of mine, ever since she was the indie "It" girl back in the mid 90s. The last few years she just hasn't been all that busy, but she seems to be edging her way back into the groove, and her latest film Price Check certainly looks like a return to form.
The film debuted at Sundance earlier this year and I unfortunately couldn't make it, but the reviews were generally solid overall. The most glowing responses were reserved for Posey, who plays a high-energy, somewhat manic boss at a supermarket pricing firm. Eric Mabius(Ugly Betty) plays a guy who is saddled with mounting debt and trying to find a balance between the job he hates and his deteriorating marriage. When Posey takes a special interest in him, their personal and professional lives collide disastrously. Posey is clearly the driving force and the energy behind this film, while everything else looks a little ho-hum, especially Mabius who comes off as flat by comparison.
Written and directed by Michael Walker, with Edward Hermann, Josh Pais, Annie Parisse, and Cheyene Jackson co-starring. Price Check hits VOD on October 11th before opening in theaters on November 16th....
