Richard Brake and Clive Russell join 'Thor: The Dark World'
So the guy who killed Batman's parents is joining Thor up in Asgard? Comics can be weird. With filming currently underway on Thor: The Dark World, Alan Taylor(Game of Thrones) is adding a pair of veteran actors to the cast in what could be pivotal roles in the superhero sequel. The first is Richard Brake, who played Joe Chill in Batman Begins, has joined as a captain of the elite Einherjar. He'll likely be taking on the role of Ander, the leader of the group of warriors who were spirited up to Valhalla after dying on the fields of battle. Their job is to train and prepare for the coming Ragnarok, the final battle that signals the death of many Asgardian heroes including Thor, Odin, and Loki. Fun job.
The other new addition comes straight from the Game of Thrones set, as Clive Russell will take on the role of Tyr, the Asgardian god of war and the older brother to Thor. He has been both an ally and an enemy of Thor's, often fighting with him over his relationship with Sif(played by Jaime Alexander). Russell recently joined season 3 of Game of Thrones as Ser Brynden the Blackfish.
Although these aren't exactly big name actors, these roles are actually pretty important to the Thor story. The mere presence of the Einherjar means Marvel may be planning to incorporate Ragnarok into a future story, which is a pretty big deal. It's basically a Norse apocalypse that marks the end of everything.
Thor: The Dark World opens next year on November 8th 2013 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jaime Alexander, Ray Stevenson, and Zachary Levi. [Deadline]
