1st photos of Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth in 'The Railway Man'

Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth seem like such a natural on-screen pairing that it's kinda crazy to think they've never done a film together before now. We almost saw it with Park Chan-Wook's Stoker before Firth dropped out in favor of Matthew Goode, but fortunately for us Jonathan Teplitzky(Burning Man) rounded the duo up for a WWII drama that has to be considered an early Oscar contender for next year.

We're getting our first official photos from The Railway Man, which is based on the memoir by Eric Lomax detailing his time as a Scottish soldier in WWII who was captured by the Japanese and shipped off to a labor camp in Thailand. There he suffered horrible tortures and indignities, along with being forced to aid in the construction of the famous bridge over the River Kwai.  Firth plays an older Lomax, with Jeremy Irvine(War Horse) as his younger self. Kidman plays his second wife who helped her husband overcome the trauma years later by seeking closure with the man(Hiroyuki Sanada) who held him captive.

It's a great story and with this cast should make for a powerful drama. There's no distribution yet but I expect to see it on the festival circuit(please Sundance??) next year. Check out the official shots below....[kinopoisk]
