Rumor: Is Black Zero a villain in 'Man of Steel'?

Is it possible Superman(Henry Cavill) will be facing more than just the threat of General Zod(Michael Shannon) in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel? The truth is we don't know nearly as much about the film as we think we do, but y'know who always has the inside track on plot details? Toy companies.  Gotta sell that merch, kid!

The latest Man of Steel rumor to emerge comes from an upcoming LEGO tie-in set that features an interesting upcoming release. Check it out below, it's the final entry....

76000 Arctic Batman vs. Mr.Freeze – Aquaman on Ice
76001 Batman vs. Bane – Chase with Tumbler
76002 Superman Metropolis Showdown
76003 Superman Battle of Smallville
76004 Spider-Man – Hunting with Spider-Cycle
76005 Spider-Man – Mission at Daily Bugle
76006 Iron Man Extremis 76008 Iron Man vs Mandarin
76009 Superman Black Zero Escape

Superman Black Zero Escape? What the frig is that? Well, Black Zero is a character from the Superman mythos, who debuted in the story "The Man Who Destroyed Krypton", and that's exactly who he was. He was a planetary saboteur hired to destroy Krypton. There have been other version of Black Zero over the years, including a terrorist organization and another villain that plagues Superboy. But since Man of Steel is mostly an origin story, it stands to reason the original version is the one we'd see, even if they choose to go with the New Earth costume. That's if this info holds up. The toy's release date matches up nicely with the film, though that doesn't mean a whole lot. Oftentimes toy companies will throw in characters and vehicles that have nothing to do with the movie just because they look cool and will sell. For instance I don't recall the Spider-Cycle turning up in The Amazing Spider-Man.

So we'll see what happens when Man of Steel opens on June 14th 2013. [Brickset via ScreenCrush]
