Sure Shots: Barry Sonnenfeld; Benh Zeitlin; Ben Whishaw

* Dwayne Johnson has so many movies brewing right now it's hard to keep track, but back in April he signed on to star in Lore, an adaptation of Ashley Wood's graphic novel set in a world of mythical creatures. Warner Bros. was apparently talking to a lot of "good directors", and have settled on Barry Sonnenfeld to lead the project. The comic does have echoes of Men in Black to it, so I guess it's a somewhat logical choice. It's hard to get excited over anything Sonnenfeld does, though. Cory Goodman(Priest) co-wrote the script with Jeremy Lott. [Deadline]

* Beasts of the Southern Wild director  Benh Zeitlin isn't venturing far from his imaginative, southern fairy tale for his next project. And why should he? He's got a pretty good shot at being a major factor at the Oscars, and you can bet Fox Searchlight is going to put the full weight of their marketing machine behind him. While talking to the Associated Press, Zeitlin revealed a little about his next film, which he describes as "a Louisiana-made fable about a hidden ecosystem where the aging process is 'out of whack' and people can age quickly or very slowly." Sounds awesome. Even better, it sounds like he wants to bring back the same crew and cast from 'Beasts', which hopefully means we'll see Dwight Henry and Quevenzhane Wallis together again. The two will be appearing next in Steve McQueen's Twelve Years A Slave. [ThePlaylist]

* It looks like Steven Spielberg is targeting Ben Whishaw(Bright Star) for his upcoming sci-fi blockbuster, Robopocalypse. This comes just a day after it was revealed that Anne Hathaway was on the shortlist, as well. Chris Hemsworth is in talks to star, and if signed Whishaw would play a computer hacker named Lurker. Drew Goddard adapts Daniel H. Wilson's novel about a future where robots are an accepted part of everyday life, until an artificial intelligence in Alaska takes over and programs them to kill. It's going to be tough escaping Whishaw over the next few months as he'll appear in both Cloud Atlas and Skyfall. Robopocalypse opens on April 25th 2014. [Variety]
