Sylvester Stallone finally to adapt sci-fi action thriller 'Hunter'

Remember back in 2009 when it looked like Sylvester Stallone's fifth Rambo flick would have his legendary war vet battling superhuman man-beasts in a totally science fiction setting? At the time the film was going to be based on James Byron Huggins' novel, Hunter, which Stallone has held the rights to for years. Stallone ultimately backed away from taking Rambo in such a drastically different direction, but clearly he still had hopes of adapting the book, stating at the time he would do it using another character. Now a story has surfaced that indicates Stallone may be well on his way to doing that.

The sourcing is a bit sketchy, but basically it springs from an AFP story which was picked up by Yahoo! South Africa, which says that Lionsgate is working with Stallone to fast track the adaptation, with plans for it to open as soon as 2014. Stallone would write, star, and direct the 3D picture set near the Arctic Circle and follows Nathaniel Hunter, a specialized elite hunter tasked with taking out a vicious half-human beast.

Stallone's been keeping himself plenty busy lately and doesn't seem to be slowing down one bit. So I wouldn't be surprised if this movie happens, followed up by Rambo 5. The last we heard of Rambo it was sounding as if Stallone may kill off the iconic character and pass the torch to someone new. Stallone has been developing both films for a long time now so he must see something worth pursuing.
