Sure Shots: Reese Witherspoon; Juan Antonio Bayona; 'Parkland'

* Reese Witherspoon is in talks to star in The Good Lie, based on the true story of four young Sudanese Civil War refugees who win a lottery relocating them to the United States. Witherspoon would play the brash American woman assigned to help them acclimate to their new lives. Monsieur Lazhar's Philippe Falardeau will direct, taken from a screenplay by Margaret Nagle(Warm Springs). It's been a rough few years for Witherspoon, but with this and the West Memphis Three film Devil's Knot on the way, she may finally be turning things around.

* We knew that all the rave reviews Juan Antonio Bayona was receiving for The Impossible would lead to bigger and better things, and now he's jumping into what could be a major project set up at Warner Bros. Bayona will direct an untitled sci-fi film which features a script from Oscar-winning writer Eric Roth(Forrest Gump). No details have been revealed yet, but expect news to come soon. [Variety]

* Paul Landesman's JFK film, Parkland, already has an impressive cast with Paul Giamatti, Marcia Gay Harden, Billy Bob Thornton, and Zac Efron leading the ensemble, but now it just got even more impressive. Ron Livingston, James Badge Dale, Jackie Earle Haley, Colin Hanks, and David Harbour have joined the film which follows the chaotic events at the Parkland Hospital where Kennedy was treated on the day of the assassination in 1963.
