'Flatliners' remake lands 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' director Niels Arden Oplev
It's taken a little bit of time, but Niels Arden Oplev has begun to capitalize on directing the Swedish-language version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Next week he reteams with Noomi Rapace for the Colin Farrell-led thriller, Dead Man Down, and he'll soon direct the CBS pilot for Stephen King adaptation Under the Dome. Now he'll take on the remake of the 1990 cult horror hit, Flatliners.
Bloody Disgusting has the info, saying Oplev will step behind the camera to helm the project, which has had Ben Ripley (Source Code) on board to pen the script since Sony hired him a couple of years ago. Joel Schumacher directed the original, but the film was known for its cast consisting of Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, Hope Davis, and Oliver Platt. They played a bunch of med school students who embark on a radical experiment to explore the afterlife by killing them reviving one another. It goes as well as one might expect, with each being terrorized by visions of what they saw.
No word on when this will roll, but with Oplev making the press rounds for Dead Man Down, expect more info to come soon.
