James McAvoy circling lead in 'The Crow' remake?

It's been a long time since we heard anything about Relativity's planned reboot of The Crow, not since F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall) took over the directing gig more than a year ago. That followed up what had been a troubled development to say the least, with Stephen Norrington's take tossed aside and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo coming aboard for awhile before dropping out. Mark Wahlberg had been eying the lead role for a time, and depending on who you ask may have totally derailed the project with his demands.

Wahlberg was reportedly still being looked at, but now Bloody Disgusting reports that James McAvoy is circling the role of Eric Draven, a murdered man who comes back as a spirit of vengeance seeking payback against those who killed him and his fiance. The site has been aces in digging up news on The Crow, so there's no reason to think they're off on this one, either.

The script comes from Jesse Wigutow, who is writing Gary Ross' Peter and the Starcatchers adaptation. We'll see if this comes to pass, but it would be a heck of a catch for Relativity, not to mention another franchise shot for McAvoy who already has X-men: Days of Future Past coming up.
