When The Sessions (then named The Surrogate) debuted at Sundance last year, my feelings and those of many others was that it was certain to be a major Oscar player. That didn't really pan out for director Ben Lewin, and with the exception of Helen Hunt's Best Supporting Actress nomination, the film was largely overlooked. But Lewin is kind of sticking with the formula for his follow-up, and he's got rom-com star Katherine Heigl to be the face of it.
Heigl will star in A Moment to Remember, in which she plays a fashion designer afflicted with a disease that wipes away her memory, forcing her husband to try and give her one last memory of their love. Yeah, it sounds like a sequel to The Vow, but it's actually a remake of the 2004 South Korean film, which was itself based on a Japanese TV series.
This sounds like quite the potential tearjerker, and frankly Heigl could use something like this rather than looking like a man-crazy buffoon like in her usual stuff. She's better than the roles she's taken, so hopefully this will work out. Production begins this spring, and probably won't take too long to wrap up.[THR]
