We still don't know if Wong Kar-Wai's martial arts epic The Grandmaster will ever reach our shores, but there have been a ton of developments with it on the international market. The film, a biopic on the legendary fighter Ip Man, the guy who helped train Bruce Lee, has done remarkable business over in China, with reports surfacing that distributors are pushing him to make a sequel. He's apparently open to the idea, but star Tony Leung says he isn't interested.
As the film prepares to hit the Berlin International Film Festival later this week, THR reports that 15 minutes have been removed from the final cut. There had been talk of it running a lengthy 4hrs+ before being chopped down to 130 minutes for the Chinese debut, so now it comes in at just under 2hrs. They may do even more tinkering before all is said and done.
And now a new trailer has emerged which features much of the same footage we've already seen, but presented in a slightly different fashion. It's still a breathtakinig piece of work, keeping with the director's established style but in a totally unfamiliar way. Beautiful stuff. Check it out below.
