Red band trailer for Xan Cassavetes' vampire romance, 'Kiss of the Damned'

The alluring and dangerous side of vampire movies have long since given way to bland teen romances, free of any real monstrosity or terror. That's not likely to change, and we're going to see far more Edward Cullens than we are the likes of Lestat in Interview with the Vampire or Gary Oldman's Dracula. Fortunately, there are a few exceptions, and it looks like Xan Cassavetes is attempting to bring a little romanticism back to vampire movies with Kiss of the Damned.

A red band trailer has debuted for the film, and it's sexy, bloody, and a little trashy in a True Blood sort of way. The story follows the torrid affair between human screenwriter Paulo (Milo Ventimiglia) and the vampire Djuna (Josephine de La Baume), a passion threatened by the arrival her troublemaking sister, Mimi (Roxane Mesquida). Mimi has no desire to control her killing thirst, even though it may put them all at risk.

While it doesn't look like anything groundbreaking, a mature vampire romance is always welcome. Kiss of the Damned may turn out to be a pleasant surprise when it hits VOD on March 28th, then in theaters May 3rd.
