In December, Angelina Jolie decided to follow-up her criminally overlooked In the Land of Blood and Honey with the WWII drama, Unbroken. Jolie decided to take a shot at adapting Laura Hillenbrand's book herself, after Richard LaGravanese (Beautiful Creatures) and William Nicholson had previously penned drafts. But now she's decided to give someone else a go at it, and she's chosen to aim high by bringing in The Coen Brothers to do a rewrite.
THR says Joel and Ethan Coen were chosen after a lengthy search by Jolie, who was apparently very choosy about who she would hire. The film tells the incredible true story of Olympian Louis Zamperini, who survived 47 Days without food and water after his Air Force plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean. Captured by the Japanese and held as a POW, Zamperini endured terrible tortures and experiments at the hands of a brutal captor. I thought Jolie made an impressive directorial debut, and was excited to see how she'd handle an even bigger film like Unbroken. Now with the Oscar-winning Coens penning the script, my anticipation is through the roof.
