When Christopher Nolan gears up production on Interstellar this fall, he's going to have to do something he hasn't done since his big screen career began, namely find a new cinematographer. Nolan and Wally Pfister have been linked since Memento, with the latter serving as DoP on all of Nolan's feature films up to this point. But with Pfister now helming his own directorial debut Transcendence, Nolan has been forced to look elsewhere.
During an interview with Film Abides (via Nolan Fans), The Fighter and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema revealed that he was Nolan's choice to shoot Interstellar. Having worked with David O. Russell, Tomas Alfredson, and Spike Jonze in the past, he does seem to have the versatility that working on a blockbuster Nolan film would require. This being Nolan's first stab at science fiction, he'll want to use early lead time to get better acquainted with Hoytema's style, as well as familiarizing him with the IMAX cameras.
As for plot details, those aren't coming around any time soon. All we know is that it involves a team of explorers on a voyage through a wormhole. Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway will star in Interstellar on November 7th 2014.
