Marvel will be releasing the first trailer for Thor: The Dark World some time next week, but first they're giving us this rather unusual poster for the anticipated superhero film. What's so unusual about an image of Chris Hemsworth as the titular thunder god wielding his vaunted hammer, Mjolnir? According to Marvel President Kevin Feige, speaking to USA Today, the poster is really just a touched-up set photo...
Feige: "It's rare that you have a poster that is just Chris Hemsworth shooting on the set. But he just looks like Thor. We just put in some lightning, and he's got his hammer and you're there. It's just an incredibly striking image."
Directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones), the film reunites Thor with his lady love Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) as he faces the threat of the dark elf, Malekith the Accursed, played by Christopher Eccleston. How much of a role the sequel will play into Marvel's Phase Two is still a little up in the air, but considering how The Avengers left off it would make sense for it to continue the Thanos storyline in some fashion.
Thor: The Dark World strikes theaters on November 8th.
