Raffey Cassidy cast as the robot girl in Brad Bird's 'Tomorrowland'
Disney continues to keep plot details under wraps on Brad Bird's secret sci-fi film, Tomorrowland, so the greatest clues that can be drawn may come from who gets cast in it. The most recent rumor has the story, written by Damon Lindelof, centering on a genius inventor who teams up with a teenage girl and a pre-pubescent female robot to discover what happened to the real life Tomorrowland, which now exists in an alternate dimension. While nothing has been confirmed whether that's true, the casting of Raffey Cassidy as the femme-bot Athena seems to suggest it is.
Cassidy joins George Clooney and Hugh Laurie in the film, the latter portraying the "villain" David Nix, who boots Clooney's character out of Tomorrowland at the age of 11. Cassidy recently played the younger version of Kristen Stewart in Snow White and the Huntsman, so she already has blockbuster experience under her belt. She also played a young Eva Green in Dark Shadows.
Another piece of the puzzle falls into place. Tomorrowland is set to open on December 19th 2014. [THR]
