Is Marvel considering Justin Theroux to play Dr. Strange?

There have been more rumors than fact in regards to Marvel's plans for a solo Dr. Strange film. What we know is that it's been confirmed for to part of their Phase Three  plans, along with Edgar Wright's Ant-Man. Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Donnelly turned in a script more than two years ago that, to the best of our knowledge, is still very much in play. That's about it, other than previously debunked rumors of Patrick Dempsey and Viggo Mortensen circling the lead. Although the film is still likely years away, another name has emerged to play the Sorcerer Supreme, and it's someone who already has a connection one of their biggest superhero films.

Sources over at CHUD have indicated that actor/screenwriter Justin Theroux  has secured "strong interest" from Marvel to play Stephen Strange, although he could be one of many in their crosshairs. Having written Iron Man 2, Theroux is obviously someone they are familiar with, and they've shown a willingness to think outside the box when it comes to casting. Theroux, who is engaged to Jennifer Aniston, last appeared with her in Wanderlust, but also starred in David Lynch's Mulholland Drive.

Last fall we heard another rumor that Dr. Strange could appear in the post-credit scene after Thor: The Dark World. While there's been no confirmation of that, if the role were to be filled soon it would still leave time for them to quickly shoot it. Doubtful, but we'll see.
