Is Marvel planning a Peggy Carter short film for Comic-Con?

Considering how popular Hayley Atwell was as Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger, it was always a little surprising that Marvel wasn't trying harder to find way to bring the WWII heroine into the present for the sequel. Right now she'll possibly turn up in a small cameo, but the part of leading lady has been taken over by Emily VanCamp, who will be playing Peggy's niece, Sharon Carter. But Marvel has apparently recognized fans' love of Peggy, and may have something special for them at this summer's Comic-Con.

Speaking with The Age (via our friends at Bleeding Cool), Atwell seems to reveal plans for a Marvel One-Shot centering on Peggy Carter...

"There’s been an online campaign for Peggy to be featured. People really liked her. So Marvel have made sure that as part of Comicon there will be a little kind of snapshot as to what Peggy’s actually really capable of, which was finished here and which was great fun. Hopefully, it will lead to other things."

Marvel debuted the Item 47 One-Shot at last year's Comic-Con so this would make some sense. The story could serve as a "bridge" of sorts from the first film to the next, but right now there aren't any details, Marvel secrecy and all.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens on April 4th 2014.
