In development for years, the reboot of Troma's cult favorite The Toxic Avenger is still moving forward, now with Schwarzenegger circling a lead role. He won't be playing the lead hero, but some other prominent character. Last year it was John Travolta whose name was circulating for the part, so it's clear that producers have been seeking an A-lister all along, the better to sell the film to investors at Cannes. The original 1984 film centered on a scrawny weakling named Melvin Ferd III who transformed into the super-strong hero after falling into a drum of toxic waste. Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine) has been attached for years and is still set to direct. Schwarzenegger, meanwhile, will be hoping fans turn out this fall to see him star in Escape Plan alongside Sylvester Stallone.[Variety]
