English-subbed trailer for anime '009 Re: Cyborg'
Kenji Kamiyama's CG adaptation of Shotaro Ishinomori's Cyborg 009 opened last fall in Japan, and there's been some question about whether or not it would ever make it here to America. One of the most adapted manga in history, the various television series and anime films are familiar to fans of the genre, so there's certainly a dedicated base eager to see what the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex director can do with his first crack at full 3D animation. As a new English-subbed trailer for 009 Re: Cyborg debuts, also comes word that the film is being prepped for an English-language release this winter. Joy!
Ishinomori's story originally followed nine regular people who are transformed into cyborgs by an evil organization with plans of a new World War, but they rebel and become crime-fighting heroes. The current version takes place in 2013 after a terrorist attack hits London, Moscow, Berlin, and New York. The nine cyborg heroes who had saved the day long ago have since disbanded, but are brought back together by the man who created them, Dr. Gilmore. They soon discover that their former leader, Joe Shimamura, has had his memory erased.
