'Red 3' already in the works
Looks like the "retired extremely dangerous" gang may be going back to work for a third time. Red turned out to be a surprise hit for Summit Entertainment back in 2010, largely due to the chance to see veterans Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, and John Malkovich crack jokes and blow stuff up. The sequel Red 2 doesn't come out until July, but the studio has already begun work on a follow-up.
Jon and Erich Hoeber, the writers of the first two films, have been brought back to begin work on a threequel. After losing the Twilight franchise, Summit is looking hard for something to take its place. The sequel added Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones, so chances are they'll continue the trend by adding more screen veterans into the mix.
Assuming they lock up the original cast and the script gets a thumbs up, production could begin next January. [THR]
