Sure Shots: Billy Crystal; Hailee Steinfeld; Bill Hader
* Oh, so nobody saw Parental Guidance? That's the only reason I can think that someone would bother to hire Billy Crystal for another awful-sounding comedy. He'll star in Winter's Discontent, to be directed by Frank Oz (Death At a Funeral), which follows a widower who moves to an active adult community in hopes of reviving his sex life. Paul Fruchbom's script turned up on the Black List, proving once again that being on it probably doesn't mean a damn thing anymore.
* The suddenly very busy Hailee Steinfeld has joined Sam Worthington in For the Dogs, a new action-thriller from Salt director Philip Noyce. Oren Moverman (Rampart) wrote the script, based on an adaptation of Kevin Wignall's novel. Worthington plays an assassin who helps a young girl get revenge on those who murdered her parents, only for it to stoke her thirst for violence as he's trying to find peace. Steinfeld has a number of films coming up, including Ender's Game, John Carney's Can A Song Save Your Life?, Romeo & Juliet, Three Days to Kill opposite Kevin Costner, and Hateship Friendship with Guy Pearce. * The comedy once known as The 20-Year Itch has undergone a name change while finally landing its first star. Bill Hader will join the film, now going by the generic and overused title of Lawless. Marking the directorial debut of Yes Man writers Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul, the film "centers on a high school reunion committee chairman in Middle America, still searching for acceptance, who has to do whatever it takes to get the most popular guy from high school to show up to their 20th reunion. Unfortunately, that guy is now an actor in commercials, so the committee chairman flies to L.A. and finds himself in the arcane world of celebrities." [THR]
