New Trailer for Nicolas Winding Refn's 'Only God Forgives'
So what are we to make of Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling's follow-up to Drive, the Thai revenge thriller Only God Forgives? The reaction out of Cannes was obviously split, with the film receiving just as many boos as it did applause and solidly positive reviews. If anything, the divisive and extremely vocal response only solidifies it as one of the year's must-see movies.
The latest trailer for the film shows off the brooding nature and brutal, beheading violence that is sure to split audiences right down the middle. Gosling plays Julian, a man who fled America for Thailand and now runs a kickboxing gym, which is really a front for his mother's criminal enterprise. When Julian's brother is murdered by a cop known as the Angel of Vengeance, his mother demands pay back, as well as the killer's head served to her on a platter. There are brief moments of new footage here, but it still goes back to Kristin Scott Thomas looking like a straight up showstopper who could overshadow Gosling.
Only God Forgives opens on July 19th.
