First Clip from Real-Time Thriller 'Locke' Starring Tom Hardy

There are a number of reasons to be really excited about the Venice debut of Locke, but let's just start with the incredible talent involved. Tom Hardy and Ruth Wilson (Luther) star in the thriller, which marks the second directorial feature from acclaimed screenwriter Steven Knight (Eastern Promises). As if that wasn't enough, Anna Karenina director Joe Wright counts among its producers. But what's really intriguing is the format, which is described as something of a "real-time thriller", kind of like 24 but as seen in this newly released clip, not exactly like that.

Hardy, who is said to be in practically every shot, plays a man who is about to see the life he build for himself unravel after receiving a mysterious phone call. Here's an official statement on the film from director Steven Knight...

"It was a joy and challenge to make Locke in an entirely different way. Shot in real time, Locke breaks new ground in movie making with Hardy holding the screen alone while the camera never blinks. The night time highway is part back drop, part art installation, as a stellar cast play the people Ivan loves and hates and who witness his extraordinary journey to despair and ultimately to redemption. A man’s life transformed in a half a tank of gas. I believe the journey of Ivan Locke is deeply moving and utterly compulsive."

Definitely one worth keeping an eye on to see if it all comes together. Locke hits the Venice International Film Festival in a few days, and after that may have secured stateside release.
