First Trailer and Infographic for 'Divergent' with Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet

After watching Beautiful Creatures, The Host, and now this weekend's The Mortal Instruments fail to capture even a fraction of Twilight and The Hunger Games' audience, how worried must Summit Entertainment be about Divergent? The novels by Veronica Roth certainly have their fans, but as we've seen that doesn't necessarily translate into box office success, especially as more of these adaptations flood the market. So what does Divergent have that those others don't? Judging by the first trailer it's really tough to say.

What it does have going for it is the imminently likable Shailene Woodley, who play Beatrice "Tris" Prior, a girl in a future society when humanity has been divided into five ideological factions. Tris is what's known as a "divergent", meaning she doesn't fit anywhere, and a plot emerges that could have dire consequences for others just like her. A lot of this footage was presented at Comic-Con, but what's new are the glimpses at Kate Winslet, making a very rare move into blockbuster territory. Winslet may be the key to luring in others not as familiar with the novels, because there's little here in this teaser that stands out. We do get glimpses at some of the darker, violent aspects, but in general it's clear that a younger audiences was the target this time. For those who find everything just a little too confusing, Summit was nice enough to release a handy infographic that should clear it all up.

Directed by Neil Burger and co-starring Theo James, Miles Teller, Maggie Q, Zoe Kravitz, Jai Courtney, Ashley Judd, Mekhi Phifer, Ray Stevenson, and Ansel Elgort, Divergent hits theaters in IMAX on March 21st 2014.
