Teaser Trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson's 'Pompeii' with Kit Harington and Emily Browning

If there's one thing we've learned from Dante's Peak and Volcano, it's that simply having an eruption level an entire town simply doesn't provide enough fireworks. There needs to be something else, a love story, a fearsome human struggle....something. It's the whole Titanic effect, really, and Paul W.S. Anderson is employing it readily in the first trailer for disaster pic, Pompeii.

From the director of Death Race and Resident Evil comes a film that shouldn't have any franchise expectations considering the historical subject matter. Game of Thrones star Kit Harington leads the way as Milo, an enslaved Celtic gladiator in the titular city, who falls in love with a noblewoman played by Emily Browning. Of course their love is tested at every turn, but never more so than when Mt. Vesuvius erupts and Milo must save her and his best friend, a fellow slave played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. The ominous intro with the ashen remains of Pompeii's citizens is a good start, but once the action explodes onto the screen it's tough to figure out what's going on. It's just a teaser so hopefully the next trailer will provide a bit more insight, because obviously this a movie with a lot of depth, y'know?

Pompeii also stars Jared Harris, Kiefer Sutherland, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jessica Lucas, and opens on February 21st 2014.
