'Dark Places' Recasts Christina Hendricks; Jared Harris Joins 'Poltergeist'; Greta Gerwig Dances in 'Eden'
* There's a bit of shuffling going on with the adaptation of Gillian Flynn's novel, Dark Places. Christina Hendricks had been set for a minor supporting role, but now Deadline reports she's been bumped up to a more important one due to the departure of Samantha Morton. Hendricks will now play Patty Day, the mother to Charlize Theron's character, Libby Davis. Directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner, the film centers on Libby, who as a teen witnessed the murder of her entire family, testifying in court that her brother committed the crime. Now years later she's discovering with the help of a secret society that things may not have been what they seemed. Chloe Moretz, Nicholas Hoult, Corey Stoll, and Tye Sheridan co-star.
*Who's a busy guy? Jared Harris is, that's who. Just a day after agreeing to join Guy Ritchie's The Man from UNCLE, the Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows star is climbing aboard the upcoming Poltergeist remake. He'll take on a lead role alongside Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt in the horror film, to be directed by Gil Kenan and written by David Lindsay-Abaire. The film will center on the Bowen family, who discover that their new suburban home is haunted by an evil spirit that kidnaps their daughter. [Deadline]
* Greta Gerwig, who stole a great many hearts dancing through Noah Baumbach's Frances Ha, will join Brady Corbet in Eden, a film set in the world of French electronic music in the 1990s. Directed by Mia Hansen-Love (Goodbye First Love), the story centers on a young man who gains valuable life experience upon discovering rave parties, then falls in love with the garage sound as it spreads across the globe. Sounds like a modern take on Groove, actually, which is a very good thing. The international cast includes Pauline Etienne, Golshifteh Farahani, Vincent Lacoste, and Vincent Macaigne. Filming begins this November, and hopefully we'll see this on the indie circuit very soon. Hopefully we'll get to see Gerwig break out her glow sticks for this one. [Cineuropa]
