Batman May Have A Girlfriend in 'Man of Steel 2'...Or Not
Even though Man of Steel 2 is technically supposed to be about the next adventure for Superman, nobody's actually talking about the red and blue boyscout. All of the attention is centered on Batman, or more specifically Ben Affleck's Batman. While it's been bandied to death whether or not he's right for the part, there's a legitimate question to be asked whether Batman can be done proper justice as a supporting character. And if there's barely room for him, how can there be room for others we know to be associated with Bruce Wayne? For instance, is there space available for Batman to have a girlfriend?
A rumor has surfaced over at Latino Review (I know I know, I'll get to that) that suggests Bruce Wayne will have a girlfriend in the film. This comes from a supposed casting sheet making the L.A. rounds that has Warner Bros. seeking a tall, physically fit woman in her 20s. Now how does this equate to her being Batman's gal pal? Well, the site never really says. They just sort of assume it based on the physical attributes, which apparently include women of any ethnicity. Hey, at least the Bat is an equal opportunity dater.
The story goes on to undercut its own theory by detailing Warner Bros. casting strategy, which involves not revealing what any of the roles are for in these casting sheets. Ummm...wha?
"keep in mind that this is how WB cast actors in the last Nolan Batman films. They put out a casting breakdown looking for a type and actors have no clue what they are reading for when they go audition. Once they are cast, the actors find out what the actual role is. The reason for this secrecy is simple. It’s to keep the fanboy uproar and the corny ass online petitions to a minimum."
But random movie blog uproar is perfectly fine, though. Put simply, the role could be for anything, up to and including a love interest for Batman. There's even the outside shot it could be for Wonder Woman. Nolan's films barely had time to give Bats a proper love interest, and eventually the whole idea was folded into the character's personal motivation for exacting justice.
We'll see if Batman has anyone hanging off his arm when Man of Steel 2 opens on July 17th 2015.
