Disney Prepping Live-Action Cruella de Vil Film
So you're Disney and a couple of your biggest new franchises have gone belly up over the last year, what's the next move? Stick with what you know works, that's what. We've seen Disney get moving on a live-action Cinderella film and a Sleeping Beauty update titled Maleficent, and now they're giving animated classic 101 Dalmations a similar treatment.
THR reports that Aline Brosh McKenna, who is already scripting the Annie and Cinderella remakes, has been hired to pen Cruella, which will be focused on Disney villain Cruella de Vil. No word on any details at this point but it's a long stretch to figure that it will be the familiar story told from her perspective, just as Maleficent centers on the Sleeping Beauty antagonist. So basically she'll be trying to "Get those puppies!!!" for the first time since 2000's live-action sequel 102 Dalmations, played with gusto by Glenn Close. Close isn't straying far from this version, either, taking on an exec-producer role.
This one sounds pretty early on so there's no word on when production would roll. A director still needs to be found and someone to don Cruella's fur coat.
