Video game adaptations are Hollywood's new plaything, much the same way comic book films were just a few years ago. Over the last few months we've seen many of the top video game franchises optioned to become features, and one of the first was
Need for Speed, based on the best-selling racing series. Unlike the awful video game movies that were a foul stain on the 1980s and '90s, this one actually looks promising with a cast that includes Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Dakota Johnson, Imogen Poots and Kid Cudi. Ok, not so much for Kid Cudi but everyone else is pretty terrific, and now we get our first look at them in the film.
EW has debuted the first
Need for Speed images, which feature Mr. Cudi and Paul on set, in which the Breaking Bad star describes as as "throwback to the Steve McQueen era of car movies". Dominic Cooper is in the other image opposite Dakota Johnson, the actress suddenly on fire after landing the lead in Fifty Shades of Grey. He plays the villain of the piece, while she is Paul's ex-girlfriend, now hooked up with Cooper. The story centers on a cross-country street race Paul's character must win to get revenge after being released from prison.
