First Trailer and Clip for 'Kill Your Darlings' Starring Daniel Radcliffe and Dane DeHaan
While the fall festival season is usually a window into this year's Oscar hopefuls, some entries have been building up steam since way back in January. One of those is the Beat Generation film Kill Your Darlings, which premiered at Sundance to positive response, mostly aimed at its ensemble of rising stars that includes Daniel Radcliffe, Dane DeHaan, Ben Foster, and Jack Huston. Now as it prepares to roll into Toronto, the first trailer and clip have finally been released.
Capturing the jazzy, spirited feel of the era, writer/director John Krokidas tells a rarely discussed period in the lives of acclaimed writers Jack Kerouac (Huston), Allen Ginsberg (Radcliffe), Lucien Carr (DeHaan), and William Burroughs (Foster). As the group is just beginning to form and their literary voice, a murder occurs that forces them to come together in a show of loyalty that would bond them forever. Michael C. Hall co-stars as group "outsider" David Kammerer, with Elizabeth Olsen as Edie Parker, and David Cross as Louis Ginsberg.
Films centering on the Beats have been disappointing of late, with Howl, On the Road, and Michael Polish's Big Sur mostly missing the mark. Kill Your Darlings is superior to them all, and as noted in my review it's "a compelling tale of the influences that shaped our most consequential writers of the 20th century". Look for it to hit theaters on October 18th.
