Two new posters have arrived for Marvel's Thor: The Dark World, including one that gives us a look at the villain Malekith the Accursed, played by Christopher Eccleston. Picking up where The Avengers left off, the film finds Thor battling to save Asgard and his love Jane Foster from the threat of an evil, ancient race. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, and Jaime Alexander, Thor: The Dark World opens on November 8th.
The campaign for Ben Stiller's The Secret Life of Walter Mitty may be the most imaginative and refreshing we've seen in a long time. The latest one-sheets show Stiller's sad sack loser with the vivid imagination transported to the moon, walking the walls like Spider-Man, and leeeeeaaaving....on a jet plane. Some early Oscar buzz is starting to build for the film, but we won't know whether it'll hold up until it plays next month at NYFF, then opens in theaters Christmas Day.
If there are two films that have impressed at TIFF more than others, it would have to be Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity, and Steve McQueen's Twelve Years A Slave. Both already had some degree of Oscar aspirations, but early reviews have been over-the-moon positive and now we have to look at them as favorites in the Best Picture race. A new Spanish poster for 'Slave' has been released, and it's a simple look at a plantation where free black man Solomon Northrup (Chiwetel Ejiofor) was held as a slave illegally. Starring Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Giamatti, Dwight Henry and many more, Twelve Years A Slave opens October 18th.
Crime movies are a particular favorite of mine, and one I'm looking forward to for next year is Good People, the follow-up from Terribly Happy director Henrik Ruben Genz. Starring James Franco, Kate Hudson, Omar Sy (The Intouchables), and Tom Wilkinson, it centers on a debt-ridden American couple in London who find life-changing money in the home of their deceased neighbor. Taking it for themselves, they soon learn the money comes with some serious problems attached.
And here's the first poster for Eliza Graves, the next feature from The Call director, Brad Anderson. Based loosely on the Edar Allan Poe short The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether, the film stars Kate Beckinsale in the title role, a patient at a mental ward where the inmates have taken over and are posing as doctors. Jim Sturgess plays a med school grad who takes a job there, unaware of the dangerous situation he's in. Brendan Gleeson, Ben Kingsley, and Michael Caine co-star.
