New Trailer for Sprawling Crime Epic 'Blood Ties' with Clive Owen and Marion Cotillard

Guillaume Canet directed Tell No One, an ace mystery-thriller that ended up on many "Best of" lists in 2006. Co-writer James Gray directed Little Odessa, The Yards, and We Own the Night, so he knows a thing or two about crime films, especially those with complicated family drama at the center. Canet's Blood Ties seems like a perfect synthesis of the filmmakers' sensibilities, and it's put on display in another terrific trailer for the film.

Set in the 1970s with all the bad hairdos and unfortunate mustaches of the period, the story centers on two brothers on opposing sides of the law, with various romantic entanglements complicated matters further. Canet has assembled a truly incredibly cast for his English-language debut, with Clive Owen, Billy Crudup, Rust and Bone stars Marion Cotillard and Matthias Shoenaerts, James Caan, Zoe Saldana, and Mila Kunis. It looks like powerful, complex material, and even though the response out of Cannes was mixed there's simply too much talent involved not to be excited.

Blood Ties will be playing at Toronto, and hopefully once it wraps we'll finally hear about a U.S. release date. Check out the trailer below, followed by a YouTube embed that will live broadcast tomorrow's press conference.
