Unwrap the Trailer for Christmas Comedy 'All Is Bright' with Paul Rudd and Paul Giamatti
You hear that Paul Giamatti and Paul Rudd are teaming up for a Christmas comedy and immediately thoughts of risque Bad Santa-esque laugher start dancing like sugar plums in your head. That doesn't seem to be the case for All is Bright (formerly Almost Christmas), which premiered at Tribeca to strong reviews, and marks the return of Junebug director Phil Morrison. Judging by the look of the new trailer, all is definitely not bright and some screwed up holiday hijinks are in store from our two favorite Pauls.
Giamatti and Rudd play scheming French-Canadian con men who decided to put their differences aside, head down to NYC for the holidays and make some quick money selling Christmas trees. It looks like they'll spend the entire time squabbling, with Giamatti seeming to occupy some of the same angry/pathetic space he nailed so well in Sideways. We also get a few glimpses of the terrific Sally Hawkins (currently slaying 'em in Blue Jasmine), but clearly this is the Rudd & Giamatti show and that's more than enough reason to check it out.. The tone is definitely darker than your usual Christmas comedy, and the trailer seems cut to try and hide just how gloomy it may actually be.
All is Bright hits VOD on September 10th before opening in theaters October 4th.
