First Trailer for 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'
"To build a better world, sometimes means tearing the old one down" Those words by Robert Redford, making an authoritative cameo in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, could probably be used to describe the Marvel sequel. The first film was generally well-received as far as superhero movies go, but it was also the lowest-grossing outside of The Incredible Hulk. So there was obvious room for improvement, and by leaving behind the WWII setting and dropping Cap into a politically-charged world post-The Avengers it appears they've done just that.
The first trailer for the Captain America sequel has arrived and right away it's obvious why Marvel president Kevin Feige has labeled it a Tom Clancy-esque political thriller. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, stealing a page from the 'Bourne' playbook in terms of tone, the film has Cap teaming up with Black Widow to stop the threat of his old sidekick, Bucky, now refashioned into a cold-blooded assassin known as the Winter Soldier. We get a greater than expected look at Anthony Mackie flying in as Falcon, and there will be some obvious tension between Cap and Nick Fury over SHIELD's clandestine tactics. The elevator scene played in full at Comic-Con, and the brief glimpse here doesn't come close to how awesome it actually is. It's also tough to tell but is that Nick Fury in the hospital bed being watched over by Cap, Black Widow, and Maria Hill? Fury does seem to have quite a large presence.
So what do you think? Captain America: The Winter Soldier stars Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Robert Redford, Emily VanCamp, Toby Jones, Cobie Smulders, and opens on April 4th 2014.
