'Highlander' Reboot Lands an Oscar-nominated Director

If only there could "be only one" problem for Summit's planned Highlander reboot, we may have seen the film be further along than it is now. Justin Lin had been set to helm the relaunch of the 1986 Christopher Lambert-starring cult classic, with Ryan Reynolds set to star. Lin soon dropped out, replaced by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo but he too exited last year. He was quickly followed out the door by Reynolds, and now after months of silence it looks like a new director has been found.

Summit has set visual effects guru Cedric Nicolas-Troyan to direct the film, rolling with a script by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man) that's said to stick close to the original, which was about sword-wielding immortals battling to the death until only one remains. Nicolas-Troyan will make his directorial debut after serving as a visual effects supervisor and second unit director on Snow White and the Huntsman. His work earned him an Oscar nomination so if nothing else we know the film will look good.

The script will be given a once-over before production begins in 2014. Somebody go ahead and cue up the Queen. "Here we are! Born to be kings, we're the princes of the uuuuuuuniverse"!
