The cheesy and super schmaltzy 1981 romance Endless Love is remembered for many things, most of them not so good. The Brooke Shields/Martin Hewitt romance film won six (!!!!) Golden Raspberry Awards that year, and marked the inauspicious debut of one Tom Cruise. But it also produced the classic duet by Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross, so maybe it wasn't all bad. Was there really any need for the poorly-received film to get a remake, though? Judging by the new trailer? Probably not.
The pretty and boring duo of Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde are the two star-crossed lovers this time around, although the premise has been flipped around to capitalize on his bad boy persona. She plays a high-class gal who falls in love with a guy from the wrong side of the tracks but *shocker* their parents don't really approve. Shane Feste, whose previous film Country Strong is best remembered for its soundtrack, is directing so lower expectations one more notch.
It's sappy as heck but there's a lot of sex in rivers and stuff so a big audience will likely eat this stuff up with a spoon. Endless Love opens on Valentine's Day because of course.
