Keanu Reeves Slices Up Demons in New '47 Ronin' Trailer

Keanu Reeves' old school martial arts flick Man of Tai Chi is out now (review here) after a lengthy wait, but it's nothing compared to the delays on 47 Ronin. Directed by Carl Erik Rinsch, filming began three years ago and was meant to hit theaters in 2012, but  numerous problems on the big budget project (over $170M) led to rumors of the director being shoved aside in the editing room. So even though it may play well in Japan where the original story is considered a national treasure, it's going to be a risky gamble here in America.

A new UK trailer for the film has arrived and it's similar to one received last month, only now we can understand what's going on. Reeves plays a mysterious man recruited by leaderless samurai, known as ronin, to join their quest for vengeance against those responsible for their master's death. A far cry from the real-life historical account of the 47 ronin, this version has Reeves battling all sorts of fantastical monsters and demons.

Co-starring Hiroyuki Sanada, Kou Shibasaki, Tadanobu Asano and Rinko Kikuchi, 47 Ronin opens on Christmas Day.
