When all is said and done, 20th Century Fox may not be able to convince Will Smith to come back for Independence Day 2. The jury's still out on that one. But however that shakes out they plan on keeping him under their umbrella and have set him for a project he was attached to some time ago.
The Wrap reports that Smith is back on board for Selling Time, a supernatural thriller originally written by Dan McDermott. Smith will play a man who trade seven years of his life expectancy for a chance to relive the single worst day in his life. Spike Lee was among those who took a pass at the script over the years, and perhaps he's among the "several A-list filmmakers" reportedly circling the director's chair.
With no director in place and Smith yet to be officially signed this is a project that is still a ways off, so just add it to the actor's list of projects that will hopefully make us forget about After Earth.
