Dakota Fanning Joins Director Gerardo Naranjo's Enlgish-Language Debut

When Mexican helmer Gerardo Naranjo scored with 2011's international hit, Miss Bala, Hollywood stood up and took notice. He went on to direct the pilot episode of FX's The Bridge, and recently replaced Joe Carnahan on the Death Wish remake. But before that project gets rolling, Naranjo is set to make his English-language debut on another film, and he's just landed his first star.

Dakota Fanning has come aboard the untitled drama, which will put her back in the rock music scene for the first time since she starred in The Runaways.  Naranjo's screenplay will center on Viena (Fanning), a roadie on a journey of self discovery while traveling as part of a punk bank's convoy in the 1980s. Fanning has been growing up fast (check out her out in The Motel Life) and this sounds like a role that's perfect for where she is now.

Production is slated to begin in February.
